African American fund lecture series

Lecture Series: MAKERS, ARTISTS, and ENTREPRENEURS WORKING & LIVING IN FULL COLOR, presented by the Columbus Arts Council, AAF, IUPUC and the Women’s Giving Circle.

TAYLOR STATEN, Chicago based Design Architect kicked off the Thursday December 10, 2020 lecture series. The topic was “CHANGE BY DESIGN” and moderated by Daniel Luis Martinez, an instructor with Indiana University Design Architectural Program.

Ms. Staten’s talk includes her early life story of becoming interested in architecture, her educational process and subsequent navigation of her career and business launch. Taylor’s specialty is redesigning older Chicago south side warehouses for clients and refurbishing them to their former beauty with a modern twist.

Taylor’s firm TNs is offering a summer youth camp for 6-12th graders in Chicago. Ms. Staten entertained questions from attendees as Daniel Martínez facilitated a great conversation regarding art design and architecture. One of Taylor’s key objectives is to introduce children of color to architecture and provide role models of what this means in a real work situation.
